Sketching at Flatford

Another lovely day with Ruth and Brenda making the most of a beautiful Autumn day at Flatford. I found a lovely old tree stump to sit on as my studio for an hour or so and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of being by the river stour. The ducks seemed to be having a great time too and the cows decided to have a lie down in the sun…

Its been a lovely summer being out and about with our sketchbooks with visits to Wormingford, Arger Fen and Tollesbury- all on the North Essex/Suffolk border. We plan to continue through into the Winter with a wet weather option and a coffee shop close to hand!

Sketching and Painting in Cornwall

I’m just back form a freedom in painting holiday with Ashley Hanson in beautiful Cornwall. Having a love of Cornwall- particularly the cliffs and beaches- walking and painting, it was a great combination for me!

The first sketching day we were in one of my favourite places, the Camel estuary and later that day we headed to Port Quinn which has a wonderfully textural beach. Day two we were in Charlestown and Fowey on a somewhat overcast misty day. As you will see, I was playing with colour and abstraction in my sketches. We were in the studio for the last couple of days – a couple of paintings are evolving…

All in all some great inspiration with some of my own trips to see the standing stones and mine shafts in Bodmin Moor, to the Eden project, Pentire and Rumps Head and the wonderful Bedruthan steps and Watergate bay! Plenty of inspiration for the studio this winter!!
